What is Zakat al-Fitr?

Zakat al-Fitr (also called Fitrana, Sadaqat al-Fitr, or Zakat ul-Fitr) is an obligatory charity that purifies the fasting person from any shortcomings during Ramadan.

It also enables the poor to celebrate Eid al-Fitr with dignity, ensuring no one goes hungry on this joyous occasion.

“The Messenger of Allah ﷺ ordained Zakat al-Fitr to purify the fasting person from vain talk and obscenities, and to feed the poor.”
— Abu Dawud
